Assignment 5/6 : Coat Hook Concept
Concept 1: This is more of a naturalistic design. Designed with function as well. The cut off branches serve as two hooks and there is a third smaller one for keys. It would screw into the wall. I would print it as a solid closed polyform so it would support all the weight for its function.
Concept 2: This is an ode to designers, flipping the iconic chair design on its head. There would be two functional spots for hooks, although they are smaller and thinner hooks. The product is screwed into the wall between the chair beams at the bottom. You can install more than one screw if you want to support more weight. I think Id have to print it right side up so it supports itself on the printing mat.
Concept 3: This is a gag design, maybe a goofy birthday gift for your edgy friend. Your coat would hang on the middle finger of course. I think testing out with my own hand, it would support the weight of a jacket. On the flat cut off wrist end of the hand, there would be a screw end that goes into the wall. It would be an easy print I believe, however I would finish it by sanding it so it feels more like a hand. Which is not the best since I'm releasing more plastics into the environment.
Concept 4: Also a design inspired by nature and wilderness, this caters to the hunters out there. This design has the most hooks so I would have to design a very secure install method. This design would take the most material and time.
Concept 5: This one might run into problems, license wise. Parodying Pinocchio, the long nose would function as the hook. This design is for the Disney adult or kid who decorates their place in paraphernalia. You would screw into the wall through the mouth which makes the installation experience even funnier. In an ironic and karmic way, giving Pinocchio the experience he deserves for lying. Printing would be easy.
Concept 6: This one is a homage to Salvador Dali. Its the most aesthetically pleasing but the least functional. This design is impossible to print with a 3-d printer. It would be a good design if it was assembled and manufactured in a different way.
